Umphakathi Mall Smart Licensing Centre is a provincial smart driving licence testing centre inside Umphakathi Mall in Randfontein, on the Gauteng West Rand. It was unveiled on 5 February 2026 by the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, and is the newest of the province’s smart licensing centres.

The centre sits in Rand West City Local Municipality and was placed inside a community shopping centre deliberately, so West Rand residents no longer have to travel to a traditional testing centre for routine licensing work. Like the other provincial smart centres, it runs on eNaTIS and operates cashless.

What this page helps with

This page covers what the Umphakathi Mall centre does, what to bring, and how a visit works, so you can prepare before travelling rather than being turned away at the counter.

Services offered

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport lists the following services across its smart licensing centres.

If you need a temporary driving licence or a professional driving permit, confirm availability before travelling. The province describes its service list at group level rather than per site, and this centre is new enough that its exact service mix may still be settling.

Requirements and documents needed

Identity and licence documents

Proof of residence

A document confirming your residential address, generally dated within the last three months. If the account is not in your name, an affidavit from the account holder is normally required alongside their identity document. See the proof of address page.

Payment method

A working bank card. Smart licensing centres do not handle cash.

Step-by-step process

1. Book your appointment

Book through the NaTIS online booking system. The province requires appointments at its smart licensing centres, so do not travel without one.

2. Check your paperwork the day before

Confirm your identity document is the original and check the date on your proof of residence. Those two items account for most rejected visits.

3. Arrive at Umphakathi Mall

The mall is on Main Reef Road at the R559 in Middelvlei, Randfontein. The centre shares the mall’s parking and trading hours environment, and operates weekdays 08h00 to 17h00 and Saturdays 09h00 to 15h00.

4. Complete enrolment and payment

Your documents are verified, your details captured against eNaTIS, and payment taken by card.

5. Collect your card

Card production happens centrally rather than at the mall. You will be notified when it is ready. If your current licence expires before then, ask about a temporary driving licence at the time of application, not afterwards.

Costs, timing and official-office notes

Official Compliance Notice: Fees, hours, and operational policies are set by provincial and national traffic authorities and change without notice. This page reflects the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s published details at the time of writing. This centre opened in February 2026, so confirm current hours and service availability before travelling.

Licence fees are set nationally and provincially, not by the centre, so the amount payable here matches any other Gauteng testing centre for the equivalent transaction.

Confirming contact details and hours

This page does not publish a direct telephone number for the centre, because no official number had been published for the site at the time of writing.
