Buying and selling

Preparing a vehicle for testing
Most failures are for small, cheap, obvious things rather than serious mechanical problems. A blown bulb, a worn wiper blade or a tyre marginally below the limit will fail a vehicle that is otherwise in good order, and each one costs you a retest.
Half an hour checking the vehicle before the appointment is the best value in this entire process. None of it requires tools or expertise.
- Check every light and indicator, including brake lights and the number plate light.
- Check tyre tread and condition, including the spare where required.
- Check wipers and washers actually work.
- Check for cracks or chips in the windscreen within the driver’s view.

A roadworthy is not a mechanical inspection
