NaTIS is the National Traffic Information System, the national register behind every driving licence, learner’s licence, professional driving permit and vehicle registration in South Africa. Its electronic version is eNaTIS, run by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC). People searching for NaTIS online almost always mean NaTIS Online, the portal where you register a profile, book licence appointments and renew a vehicle licence disc.
This guide covers the two official NaTIS websites, how to sign in, which NaTIS online services you can complete from home, where to download official forms, how to report a crash, and who to contact when the portal will not co-operate.

NaTIS Online and eNaTIS: the two official sites
There are two official NaTIS websites, and confusing them is the most common reason a task fails before it starts:
- online.natis.gov.za (NaTIS Online) is the transactional portal. This is the NaTIS online portal where you register, sign in, book and pay.
- natis.gov.za (natis.gov.za) is the RTMC’s information site. It carries the official forms, FAQs, contact details and the NaTIS “Where to go” office finder. There is no login here.
Both belong to the RTMC. eNaTIS is the name of the electronic system itself, so eNaTIS online and NaTIS online describe the same portal. There is no separate eNaTIS website.
NaTIS login: how to sign in to NaTIS Online
A NaTIS login needs a profile tied to your ID number, or a traffic register number if you have no South African ID. Never registered? Start at registering on NaTIS Online.
- Type online.natis.gov.za yourself. Do not follow a login link sent by SMS, WhatsApp or email.
- Choose the sign-in option and enter the ID number and password you registered with.
- Complete any additional verification step the portal requests.
- Your dashboard then lists the services available to your profile.

What can be booked online
Once you are signed in, NaTIS online services include:
- Driving licence card renewal bookings.
- Learner’s licence test bookings.
- Driving test bookings.
- Professional driving permit (PrDP) bookings.
- Vehicle licence disc renewal, with the disc posted to you.
- Reporting a damage-only crash.
Availability is not uniform. Which services appear, and which centres accept them, depends on your province, so treat the list on your dashboard as the authoritative one.
When NaTIS or a DLTC booking is required
Gauteng generally requires licence services to be booked online before you arrive. Other provinces and metros, Cape Town among them, often take bookings at the centre itself. Check traffic department online booking for how the rule applies where you live.
How to make a booking
- Register a profile if you do not have one. See registering on NaTIS.
- Sign in, then choose the service, your province, a testing centre and an available slot.
- Pay if the portal asks for payment, then save or print the confirmation.
- Arrive ahead of your slot with the documents listed below.
Documents and details to prepare
For the profile you need your ID number, a cellphone number and an email address you can open, because verification messages go to both. For the appointment, bring your ID, proof of address and your current licence or vehicle documents. See what to bring to the traffic department.
Fees and payment checks
Using NaTIS Online costs nothing in itself. Where it takes a payment, that is for the service, and the amount appears on screen before you confirm. Never pay a NaTIS fee through a link that arrived by SMS, WhatsApp or email.
Changing or cancelling a booking
Handle a NaTIS online cancellation or change from your dashboard, not by phoning the centre. A cancellation cannot be reversed, and the released slot may be taken within minutes, so check the date first. See cancel a booking, reschedule a booking and check my booking.

Reporting a crash or accident through NaTIS
A damage-only crash, where nobody was injured, can be reported through the portal instead of at a counter. See reporting a crash on NaTIS.
This does not replace reporting to the police. Government guidance is to report any road accident that caused damage to a person or property to the police within 24 hours, to dial 10111, and to obtain a case number for insurance and legal purposes (gov.za).
NaTIS forms and document downloads
Every official NaTIS document download is free and lives on the road traffic forms pages of natis.gov.za (NaTIS road traffic forms), not inside NaTIS Online. Nobody should charge you for one. The forms requested most often are:
- DL1, application for driving licence, also used to renew a licence card.
- LL1, application for learner’s licence.
- ALV, application for licensing of a motor vehicle.
- NCO, change of ownership or sale, completed by the seller.
- RLV, registration and licensing, completed by the buyer.
- ANR, traffic register number, for people without a South African ID number.
- MC, medical certificate, required for some licence and PrDP applications.

Contacting NaTIS Online support
For faults with the portal itself, the RTMC publishes 0861 400 800 and [email protected] on its official channels, and lists 0861 762 847 as a separate general number. Treat any other address circulating as a NaTIS contact with suspicion and check it against natis.gov.za first.
Questions about a specific appointment, document or record are handled by that testing centre or registering authority, not the national line. The NaTIS “Where to go” office finder lists them.
Check that you are on the official NaTIS site
Only online.natis.gov.za and natis.gov.za are official NaTIS South Africa websites. Look-alike domains and misspellings are common, as are services offering to renew for you for a fee. Before entering your ID number, confirm the browser bar reads natis.gov.za. TrafficDepartment.co.za cannot sign in to NaTIS or book for you.
